Why?
It is my belief that today's current healthcare policy is need of an extreme makeover. With the industry being driven by capitalist firms and bureaucratic regulations, today's physicians often have their attention pulled from patients to be focused on reimbursement issues, cost containment, and process improvement. Along with our physicians time being compromised, our country fails to effectively provide adequate healthcare to its entire population; and even if insured, families are often times faced with cost of life decisions when serious illnesses are identified.
As this is will be one of the most pressing issues of my lifetime, I cannot think of a better way to utilize my skills and abilities to improve the lives of others.
Below, the famed economist Milton Friedman, discusses issues we continue to face in today's healthcare industry.
